Other care

Cortex is a focused telehealth practice. The lead work is perimenopause, menopause, weight and metabolic health. A few other problems can be assessed by video when it is safe to do so.

Where to start

Stopping smoking or vaping

Brett can talk with you about quitting smoking or vaping: your history, what you have already tried, and what a realistic plan looks like. If a medicine is appropriate, it is discussed in the consult under the current Australian rules, and any prescription is yours to fill at a pharmacy. This page does not describe or promote particular products. Imported products that are not allowed in Australia are not something the practice will arrange.

Ongoing concerns that suit telehealth

Some ongoing issues can be reviewed by video: for example a check on blood pressure, cholesterol or glucose results, or a question about care you are already receiving. If a physical examination is needed, Brett will say so and point you to in-person care.

Referrals and pathology

When you need a service this practice does not provide, Brett can refer you, or request imaging or pathology, if that is clinically appropriate. A referral is a clinical decision. It is not something that is issued because it was requested by name. Cortex does not prepare chronic disease management plans or mental health treatment plans for Medicare.

Neurology and stroke experience

Brett's background includes neurology and stroke care. That experience shapes how carefully he looks at risk. Cortex itself is not an acute stroke or neurology unit. Sudden weakness, trouble speaking, chest pain or a sudden severe headache is an emergency: call 000.

What is not offered

  • Emergency care. Call 000.
  • Care for children.
  • Problems that need a hands-on examination before a decision can be made.
  • Workplace medical assessments.
  • Medicines of dependence.
  • A prescription without an assessment.

Ready when you are.

Book an initial consult if you want a proper assessment and you are willing to do the follow-up. If you are unsure, read whether Cortex is the right fit first.
