the work
Cortex is a small telehealth practice run by Brett Jones, Nurse Practitioner. Perimenopause, menopause, weight and metabolic health are assessed together, then followed up. You see Brett each time.
Cycle changes, sleep, temperature symptoms, mood, brain fog and the weight shift that often arrives with them. A proper history, the right tests, and a plan that can change as the months do.
Waist, energy, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose markers, looked at with sleep, food and movement. Not a program to join, and not a product sold up front.
The same assessment is available for men's metabolic health.
what you can count on
Initial consultation $160, 40 minutes, by video. Follow-up reviews $80, 20 minutes. No subscription, no joining fee, no lock-in. Pathology and medicines are paid separately.
If a medicine is right for you, the prescription is yours. Take the eScript to any pharmacy in Australia. We don't bundle medicines into a plan.
You see Brett at every appointment. He knows your history, so you don't have to start again each visit.
Brett keeps the practice small so follow-up is real. In return, he asks you to do the tests, turn up, and do the day-to-day work.
how Brett works
Choose a time on the booking page and pay the fee shown. No health form on this website.
A 40-minute video consult. History, medicines, goals, and what life actually looks like.
Blood tests before treatment, and measurements when they will change the plan. You use a lab you can get to.
Food, movement, sleep and, only if it is appropriate, a medicine. Your script, your pharmacy.
Reviews are part of safe care. A follow-up is $80 for 20 minutes.
safety
Proper assessment. Blood tests before treatment. Questions about eating and your relationship with food. Structured follow-up. Clear reasons to reduce or stop a medicine. No script for a single treatment without that work.
a standard, not a rejection
Good care is a partnership. Brett commits to listening, explaining and following up. You commit to the tests, the check-ins and the day-to-day changes. If that sounds like you, we would like to work with you.

the clinician
A consult starts with your history. Brett listens, explains the options in plain language, and follows the plan with you. He has more than 20 years in healthcare, including advanced clinical experience in neurology and stroke care, and he brings that thoroughness to midlife metabolic and menopause health.
You are welcome to bring a support person. Recent training is listed on the about page. Formal qualifications will be published once Brett confirms the wording.

questions
An initial consultation for a new patient is $160, 40 minutes, by video. A follow-up review is $80, 20 minutes. That is the full consult fee: no joining fee, no subscription and no lock-in. Pathology is billed by the laboratory, and medicines are paid at the pharmacy. See the fees page for what is included and how cancellations work.
Consultations at Cortex are private, so there is no Medicare rebate on the appointment fee. That keeps the fee simple and lets the appointment run for the time set aside. If Brett requests blood tests, the laboratory bills those separately. Some tests are bulk-billed by the lab and some are not. A Medicare number may still be needed to create an electronic prescription. That does not turn the consultation into a Medicare service.
Yes. If a medicine is appropriate, you receive an electronic prescription you can take to any pharmacy in Australia. Cortex does not own a pharmacy, does not use a partner pharmacy, and does not bundle medicines into a plan. You pay the pharmacy, including the standard PBS price when the medicine is PBS-listed for a Nurse Practitioner and you are eligible.
Not automatically. Brett only recommends a medicine when it is clinically appropriate and safe. The first visit is an assessment. He asks for blood tests before treatment, unless recent results already answer the question. Sometimes the right plan is food, movement, sleep and follow-up, or a referral to another service. If a prescription is written, it is yours to fill where you choose. Cortex does not write a script for a single named treatment without that assessment.
Book an initial consult if you want a proper assessment and you are willing to do the follow-up. If you are unsure, read whether Cortex is the right fit first.
