the model

Care, unbundled.

You pay for clinical time. If a medicine is appropriate, the prescription is yours. You see the same Nurse Practitioner every time, and your GP stays in the picture when you want them to.

How the practice runs

Fees you can see before you book. No lock-in. Your own script. One clinician who knows your story. Honesty about what will help and what will not. Midlife health, followed through: perimenopause, menopause, weight and metabolic health in one plan, with a review that actually happens.

Your script, any pharmacy

If Brett recommends a medicine, you get an eScript. You take it to any pharmacy in Australia. Cortex does not own a pharmacy, does not have a partner pharmacy, and does not add a margin to the medicine. You pay the pharmacy their price. Where a medicine is PBS-listed for Nurse Practitioner prescribing and you are eligible, that is the standard PBS price.

Not every medicine is on the Nurse Practitioner PBS list, and some care is better shared with your GP. Brett will tell you when that is the case. Booking an appointment does not mean a prescription will be written. That decision is clinical, and it comes after an assessment.

PBS, where it is appropriate

"Where clinically appropriate" is doing real work in that sentence. The medicine has to suit you, the indication has to fit, and the rules for Nurse Practitioner prescribing have to allow it. Cortex does not advertise medicines, and this page will not name them. The decision happens in the consult, after an assessment.

The same Nurse Practitioner

You see Brett Jones at every appointment. Continuity is the point of keeping the practice small. If Cortex ever adds another Nurse Practitioner, this line will change. Today it is true: the same person, every time.

Alongside your GP

Cortex is focused, additional support. It is not a replacement for a GP who can examine you, manage several conditions at once, and see you in the room. With your consent, Brett can write to your GP so results and plans are shared. You do not need a referral to book.

Private fees, on purpose

The initial consultation is $160 for 40 minutes by video. A follow-up review is $80 for 20 minutes. There is no Medicare rebate on those fees. Pathology and medicines are billed by the lab and the pharmacy, not folded into a monthly plan. The full fee table is on the fees page.

The other half of the bargain

This model only works if patients do their part: tests, follow-up, and the unglamorous daily work. Brett would rather keep a smaller list of people who show up than a long list of one-off visits. Read that properly on Is Cortex right for me?

Ready when you are.

Book an initial consult if you want a proper assessment and you are willing to do the follow-up. If you are unsure, read whether Cortex is the right fit first.
